Miiyah Paavola grabbed a wet towel. That was the whole disaster plan. A towel, an aluminum boat, five other people, three dogs, and a cat, pushing off into Collins Lake while a wall of fire came down on the Namaygoosisagagun First Nation, a community in northern Ontario with no road out. Just a rail line, the water, and whatever floats. From the second island, she looked back and watched the flames reach the shoreline where her life had been.
